PIMS

Context

Port Management Information System (PMIS) is an application to manage vessel traffic on a port. It facilitates the operator and manager for Vessel Management, Voyage Planning, Invoicing, Vessel Movement Managing, Incident Management, Cargo Management, and Report and User Management

The customer (ADPC) was not happy with the application interface and had not used the application even after a year of purchase. The application was too tabular and had lots of complex flows. The look and feel were not catchy and it had failed to create and maintain users' interest. The application was using multiple pop-ups and around 15 clicks to complete a single task flow. No formal training had been provided to the end-user about application usage and most of the operators were not so computer literate. In short, the application was not serving the main purpose at all due to improper design and complex flows.
